The Mangazina di Rei must have been built between 1810 and 1824, which means that it is one of the oldest buildings on Bonaire. It was used by the government (Rei) to store provisions for the government slaves, as well as the tools used for farming. Every Saturday afternoon, these slaves would meet at the Mangazina to receive their weekly provisions.
In addition to the Rincon Mangazina, there is a second storehouse located in Amboina, one of Bonaire’s neighborhoods. This storehouse is of a later date. |
